What a beautiful day we had hosting the Carp Carnival at Sand Point Beach Park last Saturday!
Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us celebrate surpassing our goal to reduce the common carp population in Upper Prior below 89 lbs/acre! Participants got hands on experience with many aspects of our carp management program, including tracking fish with radio telemetry and "PIT" tags, removing "carp" with nets, measuring water quality parameters, and estimating population size. They even got to create an ink print of a real carp to take home with them!
Special thanks to Kimberly Boustead for creating and sharing with us the beautiful masks and the "carnival cutout" seen in these photos and teaching us how to make gyotaku fish prints. Thanks as well to Mary and the carp team at WSB for helping us reach this goal and make this unique event happen!
The awesome carnival cutout is now stationed outside our office at Prior Lake City Hall if you'd like to get your own picture as the carp, with the carp!
