Sand Point boat ramp closing delayed until further notice

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is scheduled to complete improvements at the Sand Point Public Water Access this summer, which will force its closure. The ramp was scheduled to close on Monday, July 8th, however that has been put on hold until further notice. The design for the new access will consist of a poured in-place concrete ramp which will require the installation of a coffer dam and the removal of water to construct the new ramp. Different from the standard cable-tied concrete plank ramp, the design for a poured in-place concrete ramp is intended to harden the ramp against the effects of power loading boats. While the construction will be more intense and require a longer closure, the outcome is anticipated to be a long-term benefit for uses of the ramp. The new ramp is expected to open in the fall.

This project is part of the Minnesota DNR’s “Get out MORE” investments to modernize boat access in the state.
